Islamabad - Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was formally charged with contempt of court yesterday in an escalating row between government and the judiciary.
The charges were made when Mr Sharif made a second personal appearance at the Supreme Court to respond to allegations that remarks he made this month showed contempt of the nation's top legal institution. Mr Sharif said the court acted illegally this month when it suspended a constitutional amendment banning members of parliament from switching sides or "floor-crossing".
