A post mortem is due tomorrow on a young woman and her baby daughter found murdered in London on Monday.
Media reports suggested the 29-year-old woman was from Blackrock south Dublin but it is now understood she is from London and of Irish descent.
Media reports in London say the woman and her four-month-old daughter were murdered by her former partner who was the baby's father.
The man reportedly from Africa and in his late 40s then killed himself.
A Scotland Yard spokesman refused to confirm the identity of the victims but said confirmation would likely coincide with tomorrow's post mortems.
The spokesman also said investigation of the case was re-assigned today from the Murder Squad to the Child Abuse Major Investigation Command.
Detectives are maintaining an open mind on the cause of death but are treating it as a "domestic" incident and are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with their inquiry.
The bodies lay undiscovered for a week before police, acting on a call from social services, found them in the ground floor council flat in Bow, east London on Monday.
It is understood the woman has sustained stab wounds and bruising suggesting she had been battered. There were no injuries on the baby, according to reports.
