British police hunting the killers of Stephen Lawrence today arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
The 27-year-old suspect was detained at his workplace in south London this morning and is being questioned by detectives at a police station in the capital, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
The man is not thought to have been arrested in connection with the murder before.
Stephen Lawrence (18) was stabbed and fatally wounded when he and his friend, Duwayne Brooks, were attacked by a gang of white youths in Eltham, southeast London, in April 1993.
The failure of the Metropolitan Police to bring Mr Lawrence's killers to justice has been a major source of frustration and embarrassment to the force.
An official report into the initial murder inquiry branded the Metropolitan Police "institutionally racist".
In July this year the present Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens said during an interview that he knew who killed Mr Lawrence.
