Madrid - Two small bombs left outside banks in the northern Spanish city of San Sebastian were defused in the early hours yesterday after a telephone warning from the separatist group ETA.
The devices were found outside two branches of Banco Guipuzcoano in central San Sebastian. ETA, which is campaigning for an independent state in the Basque regions of northern Spain and southwestern France, has carried out more serious bomb attacks and shootings across Spain and claimed 35 killings since January 2000. It is blamed for 800 deaths since 1968.
