A family in north Belfast was recovering from shock today after their house was set alight during a night of violence in the city.
Police were treating the suspected arson attack on two houses in Dunlambert Park as suspicious.
Both homes, one of which was unoccupied, were extensively damaged in the incident at around 4am. The family of three managed to escape uninjured.
Meanwhile police were also investigating a shooting incident east of the city.
At least four shots were fired through a living room window of a family home in Glenlea Park at around 1am.
A man, woman and three children who were inside, were not injured.
Elsewhere five people were arrested in west Belfast after a man was seriously assaulted in a hammer attack at his home.
The 35-year-old sustained leg, back, arm and facial injuries when a gang broke into the house in Glenavy, Crumlin.
His wife had gone out for a takeaway just after 2am and six children were upstairs when three men entered the home and demanded the man's car keys, wallet and mobile phone.
They then severely beat him and smashed the windows of his car before escaping.
