Officers of the Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland today donated over €200,000 towards a fund to bring the families of the victims of US terrorist attacks to Ireland.
The Garda Commissioner, Mr Pat Byrne and the North's Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan presented a cheque for €232,000 raised by their officers to go towards the Innisfree Fund which aims to provide Irish holiday for families of New York City's police officers and firefighters who died on September 11th.
The holidays in the Republic and Northern Ireland are being organised by the US-Ireland Alliance with the support of tourism bodies, hotels and businesses on both sides of the border.
The Ireland Golf Tour Operators Association is also to hold a fund raising event in aid of the Innisfree Fund on February 25th.
