Spanish police have seized a record 235,000 ecstasy tablets with a street value of some €3 million on the Mediterranean clubbers' island Ibiza, the Interior Ministry said today.
Police arrested 11 people in connection with the find, including 10 Italians linked to a Naples mafia group, the ministry added.
The pills were found stashed in boxes buried in a remote orange grove, and were the biggest find ever made in Spain, the ministry said.
Ibiza is famous for its clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and high-octane night-life, and along with the neighbouring island Formentera received 1.5 million tourists last year. Forty per cent of those were British, and more than a fifth German, according to regional tourist office statistics.
