Washington - Police plan to search Californian Democratic Congressman Mr Gary Condit's apartment, give him a lie-detector test and get samples of his DNA for clues to the disappearance of Washington intern Ms Chandra Levy, the Washington police chief Mr Charles Ramsey said last night.
Eleven weeks after the 24 year-old Californian was last seen, Mr Ramsey said he planned to take Mr Condit up on his offer of assistance in the high-profile case.
"Relative to the collection of DNA samples, search of the apartment and taking a polygraph examination," Mr Ramsey said, "we want to take him up on that offer." He was referring to an offer on Monday by Mr Condit's lawyer.
The Washington Post reported on Friday that Mr Condit, a 53-year-old married father of two grown children, had told police the two had a romantic relationship.
