TWO POLISH nationals who were killed in a road crash on the N6 Dublin-Galway road had been visiting the west of Ireland with relatives.
The two men were the husband and younger brother of one of the three female passengers in the vehicle when it collided with a bus on Monday night near Aughrim village.
The men were named last night as Pawel Pietraszczyk (32) and Mark Forys (19), both with addresses in Ashbourne, Co Meath.
The collision occurred at about 7pm on Monday on the Ballinasloe side of Aughrim village on the N6. Three women in the car were taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, while there were no reports of any injuries on the Citylink bus.
It is understood that the men were the driver and front-seat passenger of the vehicle, a Volkswagen Passat.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second man was taken by ambulance to hospital but died on Monday night.
The three women were described yesterday as “stable”.
Gardaí closed part of the N6 until mid-morning yesterday to undertake technical examinations, and Supt Peadar Kearney of Ballinasloe Garda station has appealed for witnesses.
The group in the car had spent the day in Co Clare and were returning to Co Meath, where Mr Pietraszczyk and his wife have been living.
It is understood that his wife’s younger brother, Mark Forys, and two friends had arrived in Ireland very recently.
Gardaí in Ballinasloe have appealed for any motorist who was travelling on that section of the N6 between 6.15pm and 7.15pm on Monday to contact Ballinasloe Garda station’s incident room at (0909) 631890 to assist with the inquiry.
