The Dail has agreed to introduce electronic voting on a trial basis for "certain designated votes" when it resumes in October. This will cut dramatically the approximately 20 minutes it currently takes for each vote, as TDs have to pass through the "Ta" and "Nil" lobbies.
In a motion passed without debate, the Minister of State for the Taoiseach, Mr Seamus Brennan, said the necessary technical arrangements for electronic voting would be made subject to procedures and recommendations by the Standing Sub-Committee on Dail Reform.
