An arts graduate and former county councillor, 33-year-old Brendan Griffin topped the poll first time he ran for the Dáil in 2011, taking the Fine Gael seat in Kerry South. This time round his vote, based on percentage of first-preference vote, was down. A former parliamentary assistant to Jimmy Deenihan, and a former publican, he was the only TD after the Healy-Rae brothers to be elected ahead of quota in the five-seater.
