A Hoboken trio (Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew), Yo La Tengo have lately explored a somewhat more sedate facet of their quite charming lo-fi pop music. Accordingly, they have chosen to visit venues that are seated, that have dimmer switches and access to food. The band has been around for more than 10 years, a cult act waiting to happen. It seems highly unlikely that crossover success of Shania Twain proportions will ever come their way, which is probably the point of the band's existence. One thing to look out for is Yo La Tengo's trademark covers set, which crosses boundaries like electricity. Yo La Tengo appear at Dublin's Vicar Street next Wednesday.
