GARDAI were last night investigating the death of a woman who was found lying at the bottom of the stairs at her home in Shankill, Co Dublin.
A post mortem examination of the body of Ms Mary Daniel (61) was being carried out yesterday by an Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Declan Gilsenan.
Her body was discovered at around 9.30 a.m. yesterday by her partner, with whom she shared the house in Rathsallagh Avenue.
A Garda spokeswoman said last night that the circumstances of her death were being investigated, but there was nothing to indicate that it was suspicious.
Ms Daniel had spoken to her neighbour, Ms Theresa Mulvey, on Sunday morning and told her she was going out for a drink to celebrate Mothers' Day.
That evening she had gone to the nearby Corbawn Tavern, but had returned home early as there had been a power cut in the area.
At around 8.15 pm. Ms Mulvey's son Alan (18) was in the kitchen of his home when he heard a loud crash.
"I thought it was the dart board falling down at first. Then I told my da and we went out to the back to see if someone had broken in next door, but there was no sign of anything. Then we went around the front of the house, but it was all locked up," he said.
"She was a really good neighbour," Mr Mulvey said.
