The venue of a post-mortem on the skeleton of a woman discovered in a house on Monday has been moved from Castlebar to Cork.
Ms Agnes Lyons (70) of Carrownedan, Aughamore, was found dead at her home by a doctor making a house call to attend a family member. She had been dead for a number of weeks.
Re-arranging the post mortem is to facilitate the acting deputy state pathologist, Dr Mary Bolster, who is based in University College Hospital Cork. The deputy state pathologist, Dr Maire Cassidy, is on holidays.
Supt John O'Driscoll, of Swinford Garda Station, who is leading the investigation, told ireland.cominitial estimates were that Ms Lyons had been "dead for a number of weeks, possibly even months".
He said Ms Lyons and her sister, Ms Mary Ellen - who lived in the same house - had adopted a "reclusive" lifestyle. Their brother Sonny lived with them.
Supt O'Driscoll said gardaí have spoken to Mary Ellen who has been admitted to hospital and also to Sonny. "There are indications that the brother wasn't aware his sister had died until Monday [when the body was found]", he said.
Supt O'Driscoll added that gardaí hoped to clarify the extent of what Sonny knew later this afternoon.
