Science for All is the name chosen for UCC's new postgraduate student competion designed to help researchers make their work understandable to a general audience. The inaugural competition takes place next Wednesday and all are invited to attend this free public event.
The five postgraduate competitors will discuss a wide range of research subjects. The line-up includes the search for better treatments for cancer and Parkinson's disease, how cells regulate their own death, using good bacteria to kill bad bacteria and keeping potatoes safe from harmful pests
The challenge is to explain the work using language that anyone can understand. It also offers the public a chance to hear about new scientific discoveries.
A panel headed by Leo Enright, chairman of the Discover Science and Engineering programme, will choose who has done the best job at making the science accessible.
• Science for All starts at 7pm in the Boole 4 lecture theatre on the UCC campus. There is no charge and all are welcome.
