Initial results from a postmortem on the body of a new-born boy found in north Co Dublin today have revealed no marks on the body.
It believed the baby was left at a site in Coolock, Co Dublin, and moved by construction workers as they transported earth to the dump in nearby Killsallaghan.
Workers found the body in Newbarn, Killsallaghan, at around 12.30 p.m.
A police spokesman said it was believed the mother may have left the baby at the site in Coolock several days ago.
"There were no marks on the body," he said. "It was a newly-born baby, perhaps two days old or so."
The baby's body has been taken to the city morgue, where the deputy state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy will carry out a more detailed post-mortem later this evening. Both sites have been sealed off for forensic investigations.
Gardaí are appealing for the mother of the baby to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coolock Garda Station (01) 666 4200.
