Postmortems are to be held today on the bodies of two brothers who drowned in the River Shannon Athlone, Co Westmeath over the weekend.
Foul play is not suspected in the deaths of Daniel and Anthony Dowdall from Rathgarrett, Tyrrellspass in Co Westmeath.
It is understood they may have fallen into the river upstream before their bodies became trapped in boats moored at the back of Sean's Bar, which backs onto the river Shannon at The Docks in the centre of Athlone.
The owner of the premises issued a statement this evening saying that the two men had not been drinking in the pub.
The body of one man was recovered on Saturday, while the second was found by members of a local driving club during a training exercise near Athlone Castle yesterday morning.
The bodies were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar and postmortem examinations will be carried out this morning.
