Top Gearpresenter Richard Hammond was flown from Leeds General Infirmary to a hospital nearer his home today.
Mr Hammond (36), was transferred from the West Yorkshire hospital by air ambulance to Leeds-Bradford International Airport only eight days after he was seriously injured in a high-speed car crash.
The father-of-two suffered a significant brain injury in the jet-powered car accident at a disused RAF airfield near York while filming for the BBC motoring programme.
Martin Eede, Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service, said: "They [the crew] were amazed at the progress he has made," he said.
"It does appear he is on the road to making a full recovery, although it is early days."
Mr Hammond was then flown to a hospital near his Gloucestershire home. He was moved from a high dependency ward to a side-room on a general ward in the Leeds hospital on Saturday.
The BBC has postponed the new series of Top Gearuntil Mr Hammond has recovered.
