President Mary McAlesse has congratulated the Irish Oscar winners for their success in Los Angeles last night.

Mrs McAleese said: "2008 has been a tremendously successful year for Irish cinema, as witnessed by the many international nominations and awards already garnered.
"Last night's achievements at the Oscars are a further sign of the inexhaustible supply of creativity and talent with which this country has been blessed," she added.
Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism Séamus Brennan said the Oscar wins are "a wonderful boost to the Irish film industry and was further international recognition of our film making ability and strong talent pool".
Minister Brennan also congratulated 13 year old Saoirse Ronan from Co Carlow for being nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Atonement.
"Being nominated for an Oscar is in itself recognition from your peers in the entertainment and film industry of enormous talent and ability," the Minister said.
