The President, Mrs McAleese, will lead a congregation of several hundred young people from all Christian churches in Ireland at a Taize service in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, on Sunday next at 5.15 p.m, writes Patsy McGarry, Religious Affairs Correspondent.
Among those in attendance will be the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Walton Empey and Bishop Raymond Field, Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin. A feature of Taize worship is its informality. At the service in the cathedral the congregation will sit on the floor. They will also join in singing the repetitive chants for which Taize is noted.
Brother Felix from the Taize ecumenical monastic community in the Burgundy region of France will also participate. A native of India, he will visit the St Oliver's Travellers' centre in Clondalkin, Co Dublin, on Friday morning and join an ecumenical retreat at Glendalough for 18 to 35-year-olds between Friday and Sunday.
