Petrol and diesel prices look set to increase by up to three cent a litre next month because of rising oil prices.

The price of crude oil rose to $67 a barrel today prompted by attacks by militants on oil production in Nigeria, the world's eighth biggest exporter, and concern over Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Conor Faughnan of AA Roadwatch said: "There seems to be something of a surge in oil prices... but it is not as bad as in the third quarter of last year.

"This is likely to translate to a modest increase in retail prices in Ireland in the next four weeks," he added. He said a price increase of two or three cent was most likely.
