Mexico - A Catholic priest in a Mexican town has arranged the public destruction of Pokemon cards and magazines in his church next Sunday, citing "subliminal demonic influences" in the popular Japanese game, Michael McCaughan reports.
Father Juan Ramon Hernandez Bautista, parish priest of Espiritu Santo, a town in Hidalgo state, north-east of Mexico City, has received "destruction" pledges from 100 local children, who will gather in the local church atrium to burn their Pokemon paraphernalia.
"The pocket-size monsters are responsible for all sorts of physical and mental aberrations," Father Hernandez Bautista said.
