EFFORTS must be renewed to find Ms Annie McCarrick, the 26 year old American who went missing in the Dublin mountains three years ago, a Maynooth priest told a memorial Mass last night.
Father Micheal MacGreil, who lectured Ms McCarrick in sociology, said she had been a trusting young woman with a great love for Ireland. He told a small gathering in Star of the Sea Church in Sandymount, Dublin, that people should not disappoint that trust, but continue to search for her.
He said Annie was lost rather than deceased and he described her parents as "heartbroken" people whose lives were shattered by her disappearance. He asked people to pray that someone would come forward with information on her whereabouts.
The Garda search for Ms McCarrick is continuing. Members of the public call twice or three times a month, reporting alleged sightings and gardai in Enniskerry are investigating claims by a clairvoyant that she was buried at Crone woods.
One of the last sightings of Ms McCarrick was in Ranelagh as she boarded a bus to Enniskerry on March 23rd, 1993. Staff at Johnny Fox's pub in Glencullen reported seeing her arrive at the premises later that day.
Mr Brian McCarthy, a private detective hired by Ms McCarrick's father, said he was still working on the case but had "nothing new". In 1994, her father John offered $150,000 for information leading to the location of his daughter.
