Prisoners in UK to transfer to Irish jails

The High Court has issued warrants allowing for the transfer of five long-term prisoners from British to Irish jails

The High Court has issued warrants allowing for the transfer of five long-term prisoners from British to Irish jails. Mrs Justice Macken made the orders on the application of the State.

One of the men, Jan Taylor (55), an Englishman, is serving 30 years for planting a bomb in a litter bin outside Harrods store in London in 1993. John Kinsella (54), from Dublin, is serving 15 years in connection with a bomb attack on Warrington gasworks in 1993.

Patrick Kelly (32), from Co Longford, and James Murphy (27), from Limerick, are serving sentences for conspiracy to cause explosions. Kelly was jailed for 20 years and Murphy was sentenced to 17 years.

The fifth man, Michael Gallagher, from Glasgow with parents from Co Donegal, is serving 20 years for giving logistical support to those who carried out a mortar attack on Heathrow airport in 1994.
