Prisoners protest at restrictions

LOYALISTS in the Maze prison

LOYALISTS in the Maze prison. Co Antrim, are protesting about restrictions which they claim have been placed on them following the discovery of an IRA escape tunnel last month.

Eighteen UVF men have applied for a transfer to neighbouring Maghaberry prison. The inmates said they should not be held responsible for something the IRA had done.

The Ulster Unionist Party's deputy leader, Mr John Taylor, urged the North's security minister, Sir John Wheeler, to intervene to ensure that the UVF inmates did not suffer because of the IRA's actions.
