London - The Liberal Democrats backed a moratorium on private finance schemes to fund National Health Service programmes yesterday, claiming Labour's support for the initiative was "dogmatic" and "discredited", writes Rachel Donnelly.
On the second day of the party's conference in Bournemouth, Treasury spokesman Mr Matthew Taylor told delegates that Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes were "overcentralised" and funding methods had been "massaged" to favour the private sector over the public sector.
Earlier, the Lib Dem leader, Mr Charles Kennedy, attacked the new Conservative frontbench team insisting British voters were being offered neither competence nor unity.
