Significant progress was reported at yesterday's talks to end the three-week-old refuse collection dispute in South Dublin County Council. During the day, pickets at the Bohernabreena tiphead allowed machines to clear some of the rubbish blocking the gateway. This decision is seem as a positive sign that the dispute might be resolved this week.
Both sides adjourned after 12 hours of talks yesterday and are due to resume at 10 a.m. today. The talks are scheduled to end by this evening and is thought that it might be Thursday before it is clear if a settlement can be agreed. If a formula is found, the 100 refuse collectors involved will be balloted before the weekend.
