A Shannon aviation firm has put 150 staff on protective notice, in part due to a major fire which resulted in the company losing 20 weeks production.

An estimated two-thirds of the Lufthansa Technik Turbine are members of the SIPTU union which has rejected a management proposal on redundancies and pay.

The company has a factory at the World Aviation Park at Ballycasey, close to Shannon.

According to the company, part of the problem stems from the fact that the majority of staff remained on full pay while production was suspended following the fire.
