Conditions in Muckross Park College, a south Dublin girls' secondary school, have reached "such an intolerable level" that the only option is for the Minister for Education to sanction immediately a new school, the Green TD for the area, Mr John Gormley, has said. Because of overcrowding, 180 girls were being taught in prefabricated buildings, over 25 years old, which had inadequate heating and insulation, leaking roofs and holes in doors and walls, he said. Conditions at the school were "nothing short of Dickensian".
A public meeting will be held in the school this evening at 8 p.m. to highlight the school's plight.
