Four men appeared in court in the North today charged in relation to Sunday's riots at the Drumcree Orange Order march.

The four appeared in court in Lisburn Co Antrim; three charged with riotous behaviour and a fourth with intimidation.

Meanwhile another three men accused of rioting on Sunday were refused bail at the High Court in Belfast today.

Applications by Mr David Cully (43) from Gosford Gardens, Markethill, Co Armagh, Mr Alan Cheyne (17) of Rogan Manor, Glengormley, Co Antrim, and Mr Mark Wilson (37) of The Beeches, Maghera, Co Derry, were refused. They are due to appear in court again on July 25th.

Refusing them bail at a hearing in Belfast today, Lord Justice McCollum said that with the volatile period coming up in Northern Ireland, the community at large would be best served by the men remaining in custody.

There were minor disturbances at Drumcree last night, leading to three arrests.

A PSNI spokesman said a group of 150 to 200 protestors gathered at the security cordon in the Portadown, Co Armagh flashpoint, but were largely peaceful.

Most of them left at around 10 p.m., but up to 70 loyalists remained, attacking police with flares and fireworks. There were no injuries.

The disturbances ceased shortly before midnight, with the crown dispersing. A follow-up search of a number of cars by PSNI officers led to three men being arrested.

At least 31 officers injured were injured on Sunday when police were attacked by loyalists and some Orange Order members when their annual parade was banned from proceeding down the nationalist Garvaghy Road.

Later, the Portadown Orange Order issued a statement condemning the violence at Drumcree. Deputy District Master David Burrows said he was devastated by Sunday's violent scenes.

"The violence has completely undermined the efforts district officers have been making throughout the year to try and bring about a peaceful solution to the dispute and a full restoration of our civil liberties," he said.
