Children have been seen playing with live ammunition rounds in the north, prompting police to urge parents to be vigilant, it was disclosed today.
Officers said they had received reports that youngsters were playing with the ammunition in the Beechwood avenue area of Derry yesterday.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said they had found an empty case which it is believed may have contained bullets.
A PSNI spokesman said: "Parents should speak to their children about the
dangers of playing with such items.
"Any rounds found or information about their whereabouts should be passed to police immediately."
