A legal challenge has been mounted to a District Court refusal to renew a Dublin pub's licence because it had allegedly barred a black woman on grounds of race.
The operators of the Tara Tavern, on Main Street, Finglas, were given leave by the High Court yesterday to challenge, in judicial review proceedings, the District Court's decision. The pub claimed it was not informed at the time that an objection to the licence was before the District Court and was given no opportunity to respond to such objection.
In separate proceedings, the Tara Tavern has lodged a Circuit Court appeal against the District Court decision and a stay has been granted, allowing it to continue to trade.
On October 22nd, Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick supported Ms Tina Lynch's claim that she had been turned away from the premises because of her colour.
