Queen Elizabeth II has written to Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Gerry Breen to thank him for the welcome she received in the city during her visit.
The letter thanked the mayor for his support during the visit of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
She said the visit highlighted a “wealth of history, culture and dynamism associated with the city which looked wonderful in the May sunshine”.
Both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were fully aware of the efforts made to put together a programme of events for her three days in the capital, the letter stated.
The letter is send by the Queen’s deputy private secretary, Edward Young, and contains a handwritten addendum with a personal message from the Queen in which she conveyed her “sincere thanks for such a warm and memorable welcome”.
The Queen’s time in Dublin involved historic visits to the Garden of Remembrance, the War Memorial Gardens and Croke Park along with Trinity College Dublin, the Guinness Storehouse and her only speaking engagement of the trip - which took place in Dublin Castle.
