Labour party leader Ruairí Quinn today said that the government must end its foot dragging and ensure that the report of the Attorney General on the National Aquatic Centre is published without further delay.
"It is now two weeks since the report was commissioned. We were told originally that it would be published once it went to cabinet last Wednesday. On Thursday we were told by the Tanaiste that it would be published on Friday, minus the legal advice," Mr Quinn said.
The report was not made available to the Public Accounts Committee who held two days of hearings on this matter last week.
"Today, we are being told by the Taoiseach that he 'hopes' that the report can be brought to tomorrow's cabinet meeting. At this stage we are entitled to more than a 'hope': we should be entitled to a unconditional guarantee that it will be published tomorrow," he said.
Mr Quinn said that there must be a suspicion that the government is trying to spin out the process so that publication of the report is delayed until the Dáil goes into recess on Thursday.
"Any failure to publish the report before then and allow the Dáil to discuss it before Thursday would be a serious abuse of power on the part of the government," he said.
