A three-day long radio marathon or “radiothon” for cancer services in Cork which concluded over the weekend is expected to raise more than €400,000.

The event, which was organised by Cork radio station 96FM, finished on Saturday when some €391,723 was raised with the sum expected to rise over the coming days as more money comes in.

All the money raised goes to support cancer services at the Mercy University Hospital, Cork University Hospital and Marymount Hospice.

According to the chief executive officer of Cork 96FM and C103 , Kieran McGeary, this weekend’s fundraising will bring the total amount raised by Cork 96FM’s radiothons in the past five years to €1.7 million.
