Gardaí are searching for armed raiders who got away with over €140,000 when they held up a security cash transit van making a delivery to a filling station near Carrigaline in Co Cork.
The raiders struck at around 4.35pm this afternoon as the Group 4 Securicor staff were making a delivery to an ATM Machine at the Maxol Garage on Carr’s Hill about a mile from Carrigaline.
Two raiders, armed with sawn off shotguns and wearing balaclavas, held up the two Group 4 Securicor staff and stole a quantity of cash believed to be over €140,000 before making their getaway in a black Saab driven by a third masked man.
No shots were fired during the raid and no one was injured though it isunderstood that the two Securicor staff are badly shaken.
The raiders took off at high speed back up Carr’s Hill towards Cork city and the car was later found burning out near Ballinora GAA club approximately five miles away on the south -western fringes of Cork city.
The getaway car had been fitted with false number plates and gardaí are trying to establish if it had been stolen and if so, where and when was it taken.
Superintendent Charlie Barry appealed to anyone who may have seen the black Saab travelling at speed anywhere on the southside of Cork city between 4.30pm and 5.30pm today or earlier in the Carrigaline or Douglas areas to contact Togher Garda Station on 021-4947120.
They are also studying CCTV footage from the filling station to try and get some description of the raiders.
