Gardaí believe that a gang which stole cash from a security van in Co Meath yesterday was targeting a larger sum but missed it after arriving late to the scene of the robbery.
While the four-man gang did escape with up to €11,000 in cash, Garda sources believe they had missed a much larger cash box which was put into the van a few minutes earlier.
The raid took place in Navan retail park at 10.30am yesterday. The van was collecting boxes of cash and cheques from a number of large stores in the park.
The gang members were wearing balaclavas and carrying iron bars and threatened a security man before escaping with one box.
