Rugby fans set to attend tomorrow's Leinster game against Stade Toulousain in Dublin are hoping not to be washed out by the heavy rain forecast for the weekend.

High winds and downpours led to the closure of dozens of roads around the country yesterday and Met Éireann has predicted further deluges for tomorrow.

The Leinster game kicks off at the RDS tomorrow at 1.30pm and traffic will be heavy in the area.

Met Éireann said it would be cold with icy roads and fog today.

Also on the traffic front in Dublin, there will be layout changes at the notorious Red Cow interchange, which is still under construction and which has caused massive confusion for even those most familiar with the road. The changes will take effect from Sunday at 8am.

New lanes will be in operation for N7/Naas Road inbound traffic heading to the city, Luas and M50.

AA Roadwatch urged motorists to follow the signs to make sure they are in the correct lane - a feat many motorists might equate with being on a par with solving the theory of relativity.

Citybound traffic on Monastery Lane will no longer have to stop at traffic lights and will use a new free-flow overbridge.

M50 northbound traffic will have to head south to J10 Ballymount and then U-turn, until the new northbound free flow slip road is opened.

Full details of the changes are available on the AA Roadwatch website at www.aaroadwatch.ie

Racing is scheduled to take place at Punchestown on Saturday, with the first race off at 1.05pm and the second at 4.05pm. The meeting has to be confirmed, but if it goes ahead it will add to traffic through Naas and in the areas around the racecourse.

There is also a meeting at Leopardstown on Sunday at 12pm with the first runners off at 12.50pm and the last at 4pm.

For music fans, the Winter Music Weekend takes place at Sixmilebridge in Clare from today until Sunday. More traffic than usual can be expected in the area over the weekend. The town is just east of Shannon on the R471, near the main N18 Limerick to Shannon Road.
