The dark clouds which loomed over Punchestown Racecourse all morning finally opened this afternoon, prompting many revellers at the Oxegen to take cover in the festival campsites and performance tents.

Met Éireann had predicted that as much as 30mm of rain might fall this afternoon, however, by 7pm the deluge had slowed and festival goers were again migrating en masse from the campsite to the concert area.

Those fans who did brave the rain were offered sympathy by many of the artists who took to the stage this afternoon.

James Morrison appealed to the Gods for the rain to stop before paying tribute to his audience.
