Jakarta - Indonesia's most popular opposition figure, Megawati Sukarnoputri, fired the opening salvo in her bid for the presidency yesterday at a huge rally of her supporters on the tourist island of Bali.
Local newspapers estimated more than half a million supporters braved the scorching heat crammed into a sports ground just outside the island's capital, Denpasar, to hear Megawati (51) open her party's three-day congress with a fiery speech that castigated the current and previous regimes.
