Rangers cut Celtic's lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League to two points Sunday with a 2-0 win at home to Aberdeen.

A first-half opener from Dutchman Ronald de Boer was doubled 12 minutes from time by Barry Ferguson from the penalty spot to lift the Ibrox club into second place ahead of Hearts.

The hosts edged in front on the half hour. Peter Lovenkrands used his pace to retrieve possession just before the ball disappeared over the by-line and whipped in a low cross that was seemingly destined for Shota Arveladze at the near post.

But the Georgian cleverly dummied to give Dutch international De Boer a simple close range finish. Rangers killed Aberdeen off with a 78th minute spot-kick.
