The jury in the trial at the Central Criminal Court of a 49-year-old father who denies that he raped his daughter has failed to reach a verdict and will resume its deliberations today.
Mr Justice Carney sent the jury to a hotel overnight after the six men and six women had been deliberating for over 2 1/2 hours on the third day of the trial.
The man, from the southeast, has pleaded not guilty to raping his seven-year-old daughter on a date unknown between January 1st, 1994, and December 5th, 1995. He has also denied four other charges of incest, having unlawful carnal knowledge of her and sexually assaulting her between the same dates.
