The annual rate of inflation fell to 2.2 per cent in November, down from 2.3 per cent in October, according to the latest consumer price index.

The consumer price index shows that the annual rate of inflation for goods was 1.3 per cent in November while the corresponding rate for services was 3.1 per cent.

Ireland's inflation as measured by the EU's harmonised index also remained unchanged at 3.3 per cent. The difference between the two measures is largely explained by the non-inclusion of mortgage costs in the EU measure.

Separating out different constituents of the monthly shopping basket shows that drink and tobacco prices have risen by 10 per cent this year. The other large increases were in Health (+7.0 per cent), Education (+6.5 per cent), Restaurants & Hotels (+5.3 per cent), and Recreation & Culture (+3.6 per cent).
