A portion of a wall collapsed on a commercial premises in Rathmines, Dublin, yesterday morning as building contractors carried out work.
Upper Rathmines Road was closed from late afternoon until 6.30pm and will be closed again from 9am this morning.
Contractors were digging the foundations at 10 Upper Rathmines Road when they hit soft ground, which resulted in the partial collapse of a side wall.
"The entire building was never in danger of collapsing," said one of the builders working in Rathmines last night.
Gallagher TV is located at 10 Upper Rathmines Road and there is a three-storey apartment complex above the premises.
Earlier yesterday everyone was evacuated from the building as were the people from Rathmines post office, which is situated beside it.
Last night, a group of builders, engineers, architects and Dublin City Council's derelict sites team worked together to secure the building. Two steel braces were erected to ensure its safety for the night.
The builder also said that they were working on the private construction of apartments and a shop in between number 10 Upper Rathmines Road and Rathmines post office when the wall collapsed.
