Freetown - Sierra Leone rebels brushed aside a ceasefire and ordered a general offensive against Nigerian-led intervention troops in the capital, Freetown, yesterday.
Aid agency sources said fighting appeared to have restarted and Nigerian troops had recaptured more areas from the attacking rebels, although the situation on the ground was confused. The rebel commander, Mr Sam Bockarie, said that he had ordered an all-out attack on Freetown and the Nigerian military base at nearby Lungi Airport.
