A brief account of other shootings in the capital in the past 15 months.
April 3rd - Dubliner Jimmy Curran (42) was shot in the head as he drank in the Green Lizard pub opposite the Tivoli Theatre in the south inner city. Garda believe he may have been targeted arising from a personal dispute. Four men were arrested in Dublin on Monday morning under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act
They were still being questioned by gardaí last night.
March 9th - John Roche (24) was shot dead on Military Road in Kilmainham. He was originally from Drimnagh but had been living in the Kilmainham area. Gardai believe the dead man may have been killed as part of an ongoing feud which had resulted in the murders of two other men in 2001 and 2002.
November 21st, 2004 - Paul Cunningham, a 23-year-old well known Dublin criminal, Cunningham was in bed with his partner at his mother's home in Mulhuddart at about 3 am when two men burst into the bedroom and shot him dead. Gardaí believe he too was murdered as part of a feud between rival criminal factions in west Dublin.
April 18th, 2004 - Jonathan O'Reilly, a 24-year-old Dubliner, was shot dead as he sat in a car outside Cloverhill Prison, Clondalkin, at around 3pm. The driver of the car was visiting a friend in the prison, while O'Reilly and two others waited in the vehicle. The dead man was involved in the drugs trade.
March 7th, 2004 - Brendan Cox (40), Cleggan Road, Ballyfermot, was shot twice at Clifton Road, Ballyfermot, by a masked man who approached him on the street. The victim was known to gardaí and the shooting had all the hallmarks of a gangland killing.
February 25th, 2004 - Paul Warren (23) of St Theresa's Gardens was shot dead in Gray's pub, formerly the Red Lion, at Newmarket Square, off Cork Street, Dublin. Two masked gunmen entered the pub and pursued the victim into the toilets where they shot him. He was involved in the drugs trade but was not a major drug dealer. No charges to date.
February 1st, 2004 - Kenneth Byrne (30) was shot dead at his home in St Theresa's Gardens flats complex in Dolphin's Barn when he went to answer a call at the door. He was a member of the "Umbrella Gang" who hid their faces from security cameras during robberies in the 1990s by using umbrellas. He had just been released from prison when shot.
