The 300 Siptu members among the 350 staff at the NEC plant Ballivor in Co Meath have agreed a redundancy deal.

The Japanese electronics giant announced in February this year that it planned to close in September with the loss of 300 full-time and 50 part time jobs. The company decided to switch production to lower-cost facilities in Singapore, Malaysia and China.

According to statement today from Siptu the redundancy package will see workers receive 7.75 weeks pay per year of service on top of the statutory entitlements.

Siptu branch organiser John Regan said the company was also going to renew VHI cover for employees entitled to cover.
