The Co Meath road where five schoolgirls were killed in a bus accident last month has claimed another life, just one week after it was reopened.

A woman in her 20s died after the motorcycle on which she was travelling collided with a car at around 4pm on Saturday on the newly opened Kentstown to Navan road.

The woman and a man, who was also on the motorcycle, were taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan with serious injuries. The woman died later on Saturday. The man was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he remained in a stable condition last night.

The occupants of the car were not seriously injured. The accident happened just 130 metres (142 yards) from the site of the bus crash on May 23rd. The road had been undergoing resurfacing works at the time of the bus crash but had remained opened. It was closed one week later by Meath County Council following consultation with the Garda.

The road stayed closed while examinations were carried out by teams investigating the crash. It has been resurfaced and was opened on June 5th.

Gardaí in Galway last night released without charge a man being questioned in relation to a hit-and-run collision in the east of the county early yesterday morning. A file has been sent to the DPP.

A man in his 60s was killed after he was hit by a car at Attymon More, on the Athenry to Loughrea road at around 2.30am.

The pedestrian died of his injuries at the scene, but was not found until several hours after the incident by a man delivering papers. A postmortem was performed at University College Hospital Galway yesterday afternoon.

A man was last night being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mill Street Garda station in relation to the incident. Gardaí in Galway are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to come forward.

Gardaí in Cashel, Co Tipperary, are investigating a road accident in which a three-year-old boy was killed.

The child was knocked down and killed instantly by a truck in Dualla, Co Tipperary. He was removed to Our Lady's Hospital, Cashel. The accident happened just before 4pm on Saturday.
