The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, has said he has no knowledge of the basis of a Sunday newspaper report that another former Fianna Fail minister had come to the attention of the Flood tribunal over an alleged payment of £50,000.
The report, in yesterday's Sunday Independent, claimed the contribution was allegedly made to Fianna Fail through the former minister by a building contractor.
Responding to the report, Mr Ahern said there was not enough detail in the story to establish an opinion one way or the other.
According to a spokesman for the Taoiseach, the Flood tribunal was established to investigate all these matters.
It was widely accepted that the McCracken report had delivered an extremely comprehensive report and "both the Flood and Moriarty tribunals should be allowed do the same", he added.
A Fianna Fail spokesman said the party had no details of the latest allegations.
It had consistently complied with inquiries from the tribunal and would continue to do so, if requested.
"In relation to this story, it is an allegation," the spokesman said.
