A report that files relating to the Arms Crisis period of 1970 are missing from Government archives has been formally denied by Government sources.
A spokesperson for the Government said yesterday there was "no substance" to a report which said that files from the Departments of Justice and Defence and the Office of the Attorney General were missing for that period. The relevant files are not due to be released to the public for two or three years.
At the time the Taoiseach, Mr Jack Lynch, dismissed Mr Charles Haughey and Mr Neil Blaney as Ministers in the belief that they were involved in a conspiracy to import arms and to supply them to nationalists in Northern Ireland. Mr Kevin Boland later resigned from the Cabinet in protest.
